Ceramic Substrates for Power Electronics: From Powder to Finished Product
How are ceramic substrates for modern power electronics made? In this video, we show how CeramTec develops and manufactures ceramic substrates that serve as a reliable foundation for semiconductor tracks, conductors and electronic components. They are used in compact, high-performance modules for electric vehicles, charging stations and industrial drives, as well as in the power electronics of wind turbines.
Depending on the requirements for thermal conductivity, electrical insulation and mechanical strength, different ceramic materials are used—including aluminium oxide, aluminium nitride, silicon nitride, zirconium oxide and ZTA.
The video provides a detailed insight into the individual manufacturing and processing steps: from ceramic powder and tape casting to punching and sintering, followed by comprehensive quality control. This includes insulation tests such as MWV, as well as automated optical inspection (AOI). The process is completed with precise laser processing to create the finished substrate.
Discover how ceramic materials are transformed into powerful and reliable components for demanding electronic applications.
