Vicor, the leader in high-performance power modules, was recognized for its flagship product, the BCM6135, a high voltage (800V to 48V SELV) DC-DC power converter. The automotive-qualified product has driven unprecedented innovation at OEMs and tier one suppliers because of its fast transient response and industry-leading power density in automotive today.

It has enabled OEMs and Tier Ones to solve the toughest power design challenges, including the decades-old active suspension power dilemma. Additionally, the remarkably small and powerful module can optimize vehicles with a 48V zonal power architecture, support 60-second windshield defrosting and can help eliminate a 48V battery altogether, saving massive space and increasing range. Its compact size can reduce power system volume by nearly 50%.

Vicor power modules are essential to helping design the smallest and lightest active suspension system on the market by combining a 48V architecture and high-density DC-DC converters (BCM6135). Four Vicor fixed-ratio BCM6135, 800V-to-48V DC-DC bus converters are used to convert high voltage to 48V and route power to each wheel. “We are very honored to receive this award,” said Patrick Wadden, VP of Vicor Automotive Business Unit. “The BCM6135 supports applications needing very fast transient response and remarkable electrical performance; and its unprecedented power density exceeds all other DC-DC converters. In some cases, it’s the only product that will enable customers to meet the demanding power requirements for high voltage to low voltage conversion for automotive applications.”
