Piezoelectric materials occur naturally and can be engineered with precision. Unlike superconductors, piezoelectric materials do not need cold temperatures and high-pressure environments. Instead, piezoelectric materials can be found at room temperature, in consumer devices, and industries. (Source: © POUSEP - stock.adobe.com)
PIEZOELECTRICITY

The relevance of piezoelectric materials

Piezoelectricity is an inherent property of certain materials. Strange as it sounds, piezoelectric materials generate current when they are mechanically stressed. Inverse piezoelectricity also exists, where materials change shape upon the application of an electric field. The article explores the role of piezoelectric materials in modern times.

GALLIUM NITRIDE

What is a GaN charger and is it safe for use?

A GaN charger is a very small charger that doesn't become hot to touch, even after continuous use. Conventional chargers in our homes and offices are made up of silicon. GaN chargers are made from Gallium Nitride — a superior semiconductor to silicon. Check out the article to learn about gallium nitride chargers used in consumer electronics, their benefits, and some common myths about them.

A new study by the International Council on Clean Transportation estimates that battery electric cars sold today in Europe emit nearly 4 times less greenhouse gases over their lifetime than gasoline cars. Find out more about this here. (Source: © Planetz - stock.adobe.com)
ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Electric cars are the cleanest and getting cleaner faster than expected

Europe’s electricity mix is getting cleaner, and with it, the climate advantage of electric cars is growing. According to new ICCT research, battery electric cars sold today produce 73 % less life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions than their gasoline counterparts — even when factoring in production. That’s a 24 % improvement over our 2021 estimates. In contrast, other powertrains, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids, show only marginal or no progress in reducing their climate impacts.

Nexperia's new products save space, reduce costs, and ensure signal integrity at higher data rates through ultra-low device capacitance. Find out more about this here. (Source: Nexperia)
DIODES

Nexperia releases ESD protection diodes for 48 V EV communications networks

Nexperia has introduced the industry’s first ESD diodes designed to protect 48 V automotive data communications networks against the destructive effects of electrostatic discharge events. This new portfolio of six robust AEC-Q101 qualified devices cover the required higher reverse working maximum voltage for increasingly common 48 V board nets. This ultimately saves PCB space and system cost while maintaining signal integrity even at higher data rates.
