Andreas Urschitz, newly elected chairman of ZVEI Electronic Components and Systems, highlights the crucial role of the chip industry in addressing climate change. He advocates for closer collaboration within the industry and calls on politicians to concentrate more on the microelectronics ecosystem. Get more details here.

"Decarbonization, sustainability and digitalization are the major growth drivers for the chip industry, which is thus in a key position to achieve more climate protection. I am convinced that we can effectively meet the challenges of climate change with technological solutions. Climate protection and growth in prosperity are not contradictory, but go hand in hand. Power semiconductors, microcontrollers and sensors can reduce energy consumption by up to a third," emphasized Andreas Urschitz, at the ZVEI annual meeting of the microelectronics and components industry.
He set the mood for the industry to work even more closely together and at the same time called on politicians to focus even more on the entire microelectronics ecosystem in the future. Urschitz: "Only six regions are still capable of producing semiconductors worldwide. It is therefore important that Europe builds on its strengths in international competition." In Germany, for example, these strengths lie primarily in power semiconductors, sensors and special processors, which are in high demand in the automotive and industrial electronics sectors, for example.
In addition, it is essential to focus more than before on all stages of the chip manufacturing value chain in order to avoid the risk of one-sided dependencies. "A powerful and robust microelectronics ecosystem includes many. Not only the large chip manufacturers, but also the many mid-sized semiconductor companies, the suppliers to the semiconductor industry, the PCB manufacturers, the component manufacturers and the EMS service providers."
