With the PCIM Europe 2024 starting in two weeks, what message do you have for attendees and exhibitors as they prepare to participate in the event this year?

Lisette Hausser: With a record number of exhibitors and conference presentations, this year's PCIM Europe promises to be more detailed than ever. Visitors can discover the latest products and services by more than 620 exhibitors in four exhibition halls. It’s certainly worth taking a look at the online exhibitor search on the PCIM Europe website. It provides a comprehensive overview of all companies and products in advance.

The extensive program on the exhibition stages is also one of the highlights for visitors. This year, for the first time, the Smart Power System Integration Stage will focus on the manufacturing of power electronics. I therefore recommend all visitors taking a look at the program in advance on our website or the event app. They can easily add their personal highlights to the watch list. At the conference, participants will benefit from around 450 first-time publications from leading companies and universities in industry and academia. The agenda includes highlights such as the keynotes “AI between Hype and Industrial-Grade“ from Rolf Hellinger, Head of Company Core Technology and Center of Competence Power Electronics at Siemens AG and "Infrastructure Requirements for Electrified Heavy Goods Transport in Germany and the EU" from Martin Wietschel, Head of Competence Center Energy Technology and Energy Systems at Fraunhofer ISI. The whole program can be found at the PCIM Europe website already in advance and is a good tool for planning a successful conference participation

With the PCIM Europe 2024 setting a record in terms of exhibitor count and exhibition space, what's the key to your success?

Lisette Hausser: Experts in power electronics play a decisive role in areas relevant to the future, such as sustainability. These solutions for tomorrow have to be developed today. At the same time, power electronics must be designed to be ever more efficient and integrated into existing systems. In order to drive forward developments and to keep on track with the rapid pace of change, the PCIM Europe exhibition and conference connects experts every year in Nuremberg. The PCIM Europe is a place for exchange, inspiration and collaboration. This is where experts, visionaries and enthusiasts from all over the world come together to discuss ideas and explore the latest developments. This center of expertise and exchange brings PCIM Europe to life, offering a firsthand experience of power electronics.

The combination of exhibition and conference in one place brings together the brightest minds from industry and academia. In addition, the range of offerings covers the entire power electronics value chain. This makes the PCIM Europe internationally unique and the place to be for the industry – as the record numbers confirm.

What significant changes have you made to this year's PCIM Europe based on feedback or lessons learned from previous years?

Lisette Hausser: By working closely with the community, we can continuously develop the event and adapt it to the needs of the industry. The positive feedback and high demand from exhibiting companies has enabled us to add another exhibition hall to the PCIM Europe exhibition. This allows even more companies to showcase their products and innovations. This also means that visitors will be able to discover a more comprehensive range of products and services than ever before.

I would also like to stress that our combination of industry and academia makes the event unique. In order to strengthen this connection, the University Research Zone is part of the exhibition for the first time this year. Here, various national and international universities and institutes will provide an in-depth insight into the current power electronics research landscape.

Which emerging technologies or industry trends are you most excited to showcase at the PCIM Europe 2024?

Lisette Hausser: At the PCIM Europe conference 2024, five key development areas across the entire value chain will be highlighted. The conference features more than 450 presentations focusing on components, new materials for packaging and interfacing technologies, artificial intelligence and digital twins, as well as system design for sustainability.

The booths of the more than 620 exhibitors will once again provide an opportunity to discover exciting developments. The companies represented are among others Fuji Electric Europe, Infineon Technologies, Mitsubishi Electric Europe, onsemi, SEMIKRON Danfoss, ROHM Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics, and Wolfspeed. As an organizer, we are also pleased to focus on the topics that currently move the industry the most each year. By creating such focused spaces, we are aiming to contribute to building up specialist knowledge and valuable exchange. With ever-increasing relevance, this year's focus is once again on electromobility and energy storage.

In addition to the Stage program, there will be daily Live Product Demos by specialized exhibitors. In addition, the new thematic focus Smart Power System Integration has been added. The ongoing miniaturization and complexity in the electronics industry is leading to constantly increasing requirements, for example in terms of power density and efficiency. As a result, processes and manufacturing technologies are merging and system integration is taking center stage. Power electronics places particularly high demands on aspects such as materials, components, and assembly and interconnection technologies. At the new Smart Power System Integration Stage, visitors can expect a comprehensive presentation program on the technologies, solutions and application examples of leading companies for power electronics manufacturing.

What is your personal highlight of this year's fair and conference?

Lisette Hausser: Every year, my biggest highlight is the intensive exchange with the community. Stepping into the bustling exhibition halls and conference rooms, the vibrant atmosphere is truly unique and inspiring. It reinforces the passion and dedication we pour into our work year after year. This year, I am particularly excited to explore the new Hall 5 and reconnect with familiar faces, as well as meeting many new ones. The energy and enthusiasm of these interactions make each event unforgettable.

Looking back, do you feel that trade fairs have fundamentally changed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic?

Lisette Hausser: The pandemic has confirmed and strengthened the relevance of trade fairs. It has shown that personal exchange and interaction are irreplaceable. Nevertheless, the circumstances and challenges of the pandemic have created new offerings that continue to prove useful. This year's event will therefore be supplemented by the PCIM Europe digital. The event platform offers livestreams of the conference as well as on-demand recordings of all conference and Stage presentations from the event on site. Thus, visitors have the opportunity to catch up on missed presentations easily and at any time and place. In addition, those who are unable to attend the event can still benefit from the high-class presentations. The PCIM Europe digital shows how online features – solutions created in times of the pandemic – generate long-term added value.

Apart from the pandemic – How has the PCIM Europe evolved over the years, especially in terms of themes, technologies, and the participant field?

Lisette Hausser: The PCIM Europe is growing steadily and welcomes new experts every year. Accordingly, the topics presented, for example by exhibitors, the Stage program or new conference tracks, are also growing. In recent years, it has been possible to create focused offerings for the topics that move the industry the most and pose new challenges. These include, for example, e-mobility, energy storage and smart power system integration. The topic of sustainability, for which power electronics is considered a key technology, is also increasingly reflected in the offerings.

We can't wait to open the doors to the power electronics community again and turn Nuremberg into the meeting place for the industry. I wish all participants inspiring and insightful days at the PCIM Europe 2024.

Thank you for the interview, Lisette!
