USB Port 2.0/3.0 -Equipped with ESD Protection Diode ESD9BL0522P

Two decades ago, communicating with a host computer and other devices was a complex and demanding operation. A group of companies developed the Universal Serial Bus (USB) in 1994 to replace many slow buses with a single bus capable of exchanging data between the host system and peripherals.

USB quickly gained popularity after its release because of its ease of use and fast data transmission rate. After over twenty years, all consumer electronic gadgets now include built-in USB ports. The USB interface has evolved significantly to satisfy modern demands for fast connections with host devices and their unique features. ESD protection for USB interfaces is mandatory since the user plugging in and unplugging the cable is a critical source for ESD events.

The ESD protection diodes by Diotec Semiconductor meet all the requirements and are a good option for protecting USB 2.0 VBUS pins. The ESD9BL0522P operates at 5 V with a high surge peak current of 4 A. It comes in the tiny package SOD-882/DFN1006-2, with dimensions of just 1.6 x 1.0 x 0.48 [mm]. As such, it can be equipped with even the smallest USB ports.
