DC fast charging technology allows electric vehicles (EVs) to be charged much faster than conventional AC charging. There are DC fast chargers, which are often also referred to as level 3 EV chargers. This means that they can charge two or three vehicles simultaneously. These chargers, available with an output power of 60 to 240 kW and with a charging time of just one hour, are currently the fastest charging option for electric vehicles. Commercial electricity from readily available three-phase alternating current, which is converted into direct current by the charger, is fed directly into the vehicle battery. This way, more power can be made available to the vehicle more quickly and efficiently. DC fast charging stations are the ideal solution for locations where electric vehicles need maximum range in the shortest possible time.
