EV Chargers For Home and Business – With Reduced Size Enabled by Diotec's DIF120SIC053-AQ in Four Lead TO-247

There are several charging options available for electric vehicles, including home charging and business solutions. Home chargers provide convenient installation and charging system control. The charging process can be monitored remotely via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Business Solutions are multistandard DC chargers that allow for powerful charging of various types of electric vehicles and can charge several vehicles of different types simultaneously, with an output of typical 60 to 240 kW. The charging process can be managed using a grid management system. Generic wall chargers can be used for all private and commercial EV charging locations.

No matter which version is used, they are nowadays equipped with Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs. The reason is the need for ultra-high frequent switching, which allows for a drastic reduction in the size of magnetic elements such as coils and transformers. The SiC-MOSFET DIF120SIC053-AQ by Diotec Semiconductor offers very low switching losses at high voltage levels of up to 1200 V. Its on-state resistance is less than 53 mΩ and the total gate charge is below 121 nC. It comes in the TO-247 case outline with a fourth lead, a so-called Kelvin source. That separates the Gate-Source control path from the Drain-Source power path, allowing for energy-saving speed turn-on and distortion-free turn-off switching. At 25°C case temperature, it allows for 65 A Drain current, at 100°C still 46 A is possible.
