Compressed Air and Vacuum – The Invisible Forces

Compressed air and vacuum technologies are evolving, particularly in the context of Industry 4.0, which involves networking a company's entire value chain to enable automated processes and increase productivity. They always come then into play when a mass of small actors have to operate in a limited area, in explosive atmospheres, in the production of food and beverage where oil hydraulics are forbidden, for easy moving or fixing of even heavy items, in clean semiconductor processes under vacuum, or to simply remove dust or dampness by using an air gun. Both vacuum and pressed air are generated almost in the same way; you just need an air pump and a storage tank that is either evacuated or filled with high-pressure air.

The pump motor is driven by full electronic drive inverters, allowing precise and energy-saving airflow control. Depending on the size and power rating, the compressor or vacuum pump is either operated on single-phase or three-phase mains. Diotec's Superfast Efficient Rectifier ESW6006 with 60 A/600 V and soft recovery can be found at various positions in the motor drive circuit. It saves energy and helps to condition the mains current when used as a boost diode in power factor correction circuits (PFC). It acts as a freewheeling diode in parallel with the MOSFETs or IGBTs of the inverter stage. Furthermore, the standard TO-247 package comes for easy heat sink assembly and effective cooling.
